A fabulous piece of early 20th Century London hat-trade history. Circa 1910.
This large, original Rexley's hat box is made from cardboard and carries the wonderfully elaborate crowned Rexley's logo in gilt, along with the address 49 St James's Street, Piccadilly, London.
The real bonus is the original printed label on the reverse. It features a hat size chart with head measurements, together with spaces for the name, colour, order number, shape, quality and quantity. It's a lovely little glimpse into how hats were ordered and supplied over a century ago.
The deep red box has acquired a lovely patina over the years, with some rubbing and losses to the gilt decoration and some foxing to the original paper label, but this all adds to its character and authenticity.
This is a wonderful piece of commercial ephemera, and particularly appealing to collectors of hats, fashion history and old London shops and advertising.
Measurements: 300mm high x 370mm wide , 330mm deep.
