Recently French Polished, that's why it's so glossy in the image, however, it will dull down in a few weeks once the polish as fully cured.  It can also be cut back if a more subdued finish is preferred. 

Incredibly detailed pedestal base on castors, a very fine example of early New Zealand carpentry. 

Large enough to seat 6 comfortably.
