This type of greatly cherished cobalt blue underglaze was produced in Staffordshire and other parts of England from about 1820 - it took the English about 100 years to figure out how to replicate the glazes of Chinese Porcelain which was so highly prized.
They were generally glazed on earthenware so reasonably heavy and hardwearing in comparison to later pottery and porcelain
