$750 - 10 pieces
NZ $750.00
One of the most sought after sets of all time, not to be confused with the later pieces made by Wedgwood, this particular set is extremely rare with an interesting back-story.

The 10 pieces consist of:

teapot without lid
3 x cups
3x saucers
2 x side plates
1 x milk

In terms of great value and dearness, arguably the most precious and pleasing of all Potter non-book collectibles, to be cherished and adored, each piece a chinaware jewel.

Around 1908 Beatrix Potter created models of her characters and Royal Doulton agreed to manufacture them. She thought them ugly. In 1917, Elsie Grimwade, daughter of pottery manufacturer Leonard Grimwade, submitted a model figurine based upon a Potter character. Beatrix rejected it, too, but submitted her own modeled figurines to Grimwade. They were broken in transit. "Finally, in 1922, Grimwade's began manufacturing her pieces of nursery ware...Beatrix acted as a consultant for the illustrations on the nursery ware pieces and they were a huge success during that period...Today, Grimwades have become very valuable and desired by Beatrix Potter collectors"

"Grimwade's did...produce a range of nursery ware with litho printed decoration of Peter Rabbit and friends. Although Beatrix gave her permission in 1917, in an attempt to curb the pirated china on the market, Grimwade's did not actually begin manufacturing until 1922, blaming war-time shortages of material and staff. Beatrix was irritated by the long delay and at one time considered finding another company but she was very pleased with the final results and ordered a selection for Christmas presents"
